Texas Tech's 2016 football season will begin in exactly 14 days with a Sept. 3 kickoff against Stephen F. Austin.

Today, we continue our Countdown to Kickoff series with a notable way the number 14 relates to Red Raider football.

14: Wes Welker caught 14 passes for 169 yards and 2 TD in Texas Tech's upset win over No. 3 Texas in 2002.

Texas Tech great Wes Welker racked up 247 all-purpose yards and scored two touchdowns in the Red Raiders' upset win over No. 3 Texas in 2002. He did most of his damage as a receiver, hauling in 14 of Kliff Kingsbury's 38 completions on the day.

Welker set the Texas Tech single-game record for catches in that game, a record which stood until Robert Johnson caught 15 passes against SMU in 2006.

Tomorrow: 13 - We look at Texas Tech's head football coaches.
