Texas Tech's 2016 football season will begin in exactly 24 days with a Sept. 3 kickoff against Stephen F. Austin.

Today, we continue our Countdown to Kickoff series with a notable way the number 24 relates to Red Raider football.

24: Joselio Hanson set a Texas Tech single-season record for pass breakups with 24 in 2002.

Texas Tech cornerback Joselio Hanson set a Texas Tech program record with 24 pass breakups during his senior season in 2002. The Playa del Rey, Calif. product signed with the Red Raiders in 2001 out of El Camino Junior College and was a key contributor in the team's defensive backfield for both of his seasons on the South Plains.

Hanson, as is the case with most junior college transfers, was significantly improved heading into his second year at the FBS level - his 24 pass breakups are a good testament to that.

While Hanson was a good player for Texas Tech, it did not come as a huge surprise when he went undrafted in the 2003 NFL Draft. Hanson inked with the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad in 2003 and made the active roster the following season. He did not stick with the 49ers, though, and eventually found his way to NFL Europe where he won the 2006 league championship with the Frankfurt Galaxy. Following his stint in Europe, Hanson signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played from 2006-11. He played one final season with the Oakland Raiders in 2012 before being waived due to injury in 2013.

Tomorrow: 23 - We look at one of Texas Tech's most successful coaches.
