COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 50 | 49 | 48 | 47 | 46 | 45 | 44 | 43 | 42 | 41 | 40 | 39

Texas Tech's 2016 football season will begin in exactly 38 days with a Sept. 3 kickoff against Stephen F. Austin.

Today, we continue our Countdown to Kickoff series with a notable way the number 38 relates to Red Raider football.

38: Texas Tech is 38-17-2 all-time against teams from the Pac-12 Conference.

Texas Tech's Sept. 10 game against Arizona State this season will mark the program's first regular season matchup against a team from the Pac-12* since the Red Raiders and Sun Devils opened the 1999 campaign against each other in Tempe, Ariz.

In all, Texas Tech has played 57 games against current members of the Pac-12, posting a 38-17-2 all-time record. The Red Raiders' 68.4 winning percentage against the league is by far their best mark against another Power Five league

* Not counting Texas Tech's games against Colorado while the Buffs were a Big 12 member.

Most of Texas Tech's Pac-12 wins have come at the expense of former Border Conference rival Arizona. The Red Raiders have dominated their series against the Wildcats 26-4-2 and at one point even rattled off 15-straight victories. The two programs picked up the series again briefly in the 1970s and, again, Texas Tech piled up the Ws.

The Red Raiders have also notched wins against Colorado (5-5), Oregon State (1-0), Utah (2-0) and Washington State (2-0). The team has yet to defeat Oregon (0-2), USC (0-3) and Washington (0-2).

Tomorrow: 37 - We look at Texas Tech and the postseason.
