Euless (Texas) Trinity defensive back John Davis long held to the fact that Texas Tech was his No. 1 school. After picking up an offer in mid-June, announcing a top three that included the Red Raiders and taking a recent visit out to Lubbock, the three-star prospect always seemed very interested in Kliff Kingsbury's program.

He made things official on Tuesday night becoming the Red Raiders' 13th pledge in the class of 2017.

With Davis' commitment:

- The Red Raiders now have 13 total commits, with five of them being defensive backs.

- Texas Tech's 13 commits give them the No. 35-ranked class in the country and fourth-ranked class in the Big 12. The program also has the league's fourth-highest average star rating at 3.08.

- All five of the Red Raiders' defensive back commits are 6-foot or taller, and the class averages a sturdy 6-foot-1, 176 pounds

- Texas Tech now has two commits who were offered at satellite camps: Davis and Adrian Frye.

Cedar Hill LB in town for visit

The Texas Tech coaching staff played host to Cedar Hill standout and top linebacker target Dimitri Moore this past weekend.

"It was a great visit," Moore told RRS this week. "I really liked what they had to say and what they have to offer. There was a lot of love there, great vibes, and I loved it. I spent a lot of time with coach (Zac) Spavital and coach (David) Gibbs."

Four-star receiver checks out Lubbock

Four-star 2018 wide receiver Drue Jackson visited Texas Tech over the weekend, his second trip to the South Plains this summer. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect appears to be the Red Raiders' top 2018 receiver target.

"They tell me I’m their No. 1 receiver on their board right now," he told RRS this week. "I talk with coach (Eric) Morris and coach (Emmett) Jones regularly, and I am really close with the both of them. My most recent visit went great. It’s just like family down there, and I like that. They make me feel at home."

Foster offers 2018 running backs

Texas Tech running backs coach DeShaun Foster extended two new 2018 running back offers this week: three-star AJ Carter and four-star Stanley Hackett.

Carter thinks he could do big things at Texas Tech.

"I really don't know a lot about Texas Tech, but I know they have a good program and a lot of really good skill players on offense," Carter told RRS this week. "(DeAndre) Washington, their running back last year, was really good and put up a lot of yards. We play more of a traditional offense here at Many, but I believe that I would be able to adjust and make things happen in the up-tempo, spread offense that Texas Tech runs."

From the Hardwood

Chris Beard and his staff have hit the ground running on the recruiting trail since arriving in Lubbock. In just a few short months, the Red Raiders have shown that they are not afraid to offer the big fish and will go head-to-head with any school in the country.

Their newest offer, five-star forward Khavon Moore, is a testament to that mindset.

On the Diamond

Fresh off another College World Series run, Tim Tadlock and his staff are starting to see another talented run of commits roll in. Their newest commits include a one-time Texas pledge and a standout 2018 prospect.

Richard Gilbert was named to the San Antonio All-Area team, received all-district honors and was a first-team All-State selection as a pitcher. He finished his junior season with an 11-2 record and a 1.62 ERA. Gilbert recorded 64 strikeouts in 69.3 innings.

Gabe Castillo, a 2018 prospect, was named 32-2A Offensive MVP and was a third-team All-State selection as a shortstop. He finished his sophomore season with a .481 batting average, while recording 11 doubles, three triples and 30 RBI. On the mound, Castillo recorded eight complete games, three shutouts and struck out 87 batters.
