Four-star wide receiver recaps recent Texas Tech visit

RELATED: Three-star CB commits to Texas Tech | Why his pledge is important

Even with signing day for the 2018 class still 19 months away, the Texas Tech coaches are already starting to sort out their recruiting board for next year’s class. The Red Raiders have offered 10 wide receivers for 2018, and already appear to have a No. 1 target: Sachse (Texas) standout Drue Jackson.

Jackson is pretty high on Texas Tech, too. The Red Raiders were the first team to offer the rising prospect back in April and Jackson has been to Lubbock twice over the past couple of months. He reaches out to offensive coordinator Eric Morris and wide receivers coach Emmett Jones regularly.

Jackson has eight total offers currently.

WHAT'S NEXT?:

Jackson’s most recent visit to Lubbock took place over a two-day period in which he watched the Red Raiders workout, took in the player-organized 7-on-7 sessions and interacted with the program's coaching staff. This summer, Jackson competed at the Rivals Underclassmen Challenge in Atlanta and has taken multiple unofficial visits to schools such as Texas A&M, Clemson, Auburn and others.

On the football field, Jackson is hoping to improve on his 15-catch, 139-yard performance from a season ago. He is excited to step into his new role as the go-to option in the Sachse offense now that Donovan and Devin Duvernay have moved on to the college level.

IN HIS WORDS:

“They tell me I’m their No. 1 receiver on their board right now. I talk with coach Morris and coach Jones regularly, and I am really close with the both of them. My most recent visit went great. It’s just like family down there, and I like that. They make me feel at home.”

“The coaches just talked to me about their upcoming season and my upcoming season and we watched some film, too. I watched the team workout and do seven-on-seven stuff. They are going to be good next year.”

OUR REACTION:

Jackson is actually a Lubbock native and has family in and around the area, so getting him to come up to the school every time he visits is a big plus for Texas Tech. The Red Raiders were the first offer for Jackson, which should go a long way with the four-star receiver. A big year on the field should continue to keep him interested in the school despite some expected offers from big-time programs.
