The Red Raiders added yet another defender to their 2017 class on Monday night, as Euless Trinity cornerback John Davis became the newest member of what's become a sizable group of secondary commits.

So, how does this effect recruiting and the team? Lets take a closer look.

WHAT KIND OF PROSPECT IS DAVIS?

If there were ever a guy that fits the mold of what defensive coordinator David Gibbs and cornerbacks coach Karl Scott are looking for in their defensive backs, they found it with Davis. Not only is he a legit 6-foot-1 with length, he also just so happens to play in a scheme that shares a whole lot of similarities to what Texas Tech runs under Gibbs. Davis plays a ton of off-zone, and you get to see that front and center on his film.

Davis does a great job of keeping his eyes on the quarterback while in zone coverage. He's decisive and instinctive when he determines where the ball is going to go, resulting in some quality interceptions where he jumps the route or out-leverages the receiver. You like what you see in man coverage, too, specifically his drive and want-to. Davis doesn't give up in situations where he's having to cover for a long time, and you love seeing that motor.

Davis is a fantastic fit, and both Scott and Gibbs got to see that in person earlier this summer at the Red Raiders' Euless Trinity satellite camp.
