Shortly after receiving an offer on Saturday evening, Giddings (Texas) wide receiver Treveon Johnson announced his commitment to the Red Raiders. The 2018 wide receiver is the first commit for the Red Raiders in the 2018 class. Johnson popped up on Tech's radar after a strong showing at the Duncanville satellite camp, and he is a big fan of Tech's offense.

"Basically I love the fact that Texas Tech throws the ball," Johnson told RRS this week. "Throwing the ball that much is every receiver's dream," he said. "That's thrilling for me. Every kid's dream when they grow up, no matter the profession, is to go pro. If it gives me a chance to go pro, I love it. I love the intensity of it."

Johnson finished his sophomore season with 28 receptions for 610 yards and 8 touchdowns. He also added another 155 yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground en route to first team All-District honors.

With Johnson's commitment:

-Tech is seemingly looking to add a few more pass catchers in 2018 as they have made 12 offers to 2018 wide receivers so far with Drue Jackson and Jaylon Robinson still some of their top targets.

-Tech joins Oklahoma (three commits) and Iowa State (one commit) as the only Big 12 schools to have 2018 commits in the fold.

-Tech now has three commits whose talents were uncovered at satellite camps: Johnson, John Davis, and Adrian Frye.

Lancaster receiver has Tech in top six

Lancaster (Texas) wide receiver Cartrell Thomas has long held Tech as a No. 1 option for him, and the Red Raiders made the cut for the speedy receiver when he trimmed down his offer list on Sunday evening. The list included Boise State, Colorado, Illinois, Texas State, Utah, and Tech.

"I’ve always been a fan of Texas Tech, and I’ve always loved Tech," Thomas told RRS this week. "Tech is a great school and a great program. I love Tech, I love the coaching staff. I feel like coach (Kliff) Kingsbury has a great mindset of what he wants for the school. They are a school that fits me well and can get me a good education."

Around the Diamond

Baseball head coach Tim Tadlock continues at his blistering recruiting pace and lands another commit for his 2018 class which brings the total up to four.

Dru Baker plays third base for Tomball Memorial High School. As a sophomore last season he earned second team All-District honors in baseball while also garnering first team All-District honors in football.

Around the Big 12

-The Iowa State Cyclones dipped into the JUCO ranks and nabbed two three-star defensive linemen from California this past week. Defensive tackles Kamilo Tongamoa and Ray Lima committed to the Cyclones. ISU now has 19 commits.
