The Red Raiders have made the cut for Lancaster (Texas) wide receiver Cartrell Thomas. The three-star prospect announced his top six on Twitter on Sunday, identifying Boise State, Colorado, Illinois, Texas Tech, Texas State and Utah as his finalists.

Thomas was one of the first wide receivers to be offered by the Red Raiders, and the two sides have been in regular contact since.

"I’ve always been a fan of Texas Tech, and I’ve always loved Tech," Thomas said. "Tech is a great school and a great program. I love Tech, I love the coaching staff. I feel like coach (Kliff) Kingsbury has a great mindset of what he wants for the school. They are a school that fits me well and can get me a good education."

Thomas keeps in touch with wide receiver’s coach Emmett Jones through Twitter, and he also spoke extensively with with Kingsbury and Eric Morris earlier this summer at a satellite camp.

"I didn’t ask them a lot about where I stood with them, but right when I got there, it was all love," Thomas said. "I didn’t participate (in the camp), but they always invited me over to help and show things. I talked with coach Kingsbury and coach Morris a lot and picked their brains about how they run practices and stuff."

The 5-foot-10, 158-pound prospect said is looking for a program that fits him on and off the field.

"I’m just looking for a future home," Thomas said. "I don’t want to go to a place that just wants me for football but they want me so that I can get a good education, then I can focus on football."

Thomas said he would like to unofficially visit Texas Tech at some point before his high school football season starts on Aug. 26. He hopes to visit for a game, too.
