RELATED: Hamilton's transfer sets up Texas Tech huge for 2017-18
Former DePaul center Tommy Hamilton IV has transferred to Texas Tech, sources have confirmed to RedRaiderSports.com. The 6-foot-11, 262-pound rising senior will sit out the upcoming season due to NCAA transfer rules and play his final season of eligibility with the Red Raiders in 2017-18.
Hamilton, according to sources, has already signed financial aid paperwork with the university and will be enrolled in classes for the fall semester.
The Chicago native is the fourth Div. I scholarship player to transfer to Texas Tech this summer, a testament to the ceaseless efforts of first-year head coach Chris Beard and his staff to improve the program's roster.
In an interview with Lubbock's Double T 97.3 in May, following the addition of JUCO transfers Niem Stevenson and Shadell Millinghaus, Beard acknowledged the Red Raiders' non-stop approach to adding talent.
"We’re continuing to recruit," he said. "It’s never over."
Hamilton started 58 games in his first three collegiate seasons, averaging 8.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per outing. He scored in double-figures 37 times at DePaul, including four 20-point games and five double-doubles. Hamilton shot 42.5 percent from three during his time with the Blue Demons, the fourth-best career mark in program history.
Last season against Marquette, Hamilton scored 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-6 from distance, and hauled in 6 rebounds.
Texas Tech will also have Florida transfer Brandone Francis sitting out this year, giving Beard’s program two standout players to add to a talented core group of six returning players for the 2017-18 season.
Rivals.com ranked Hamilton as a three-star prospect in the 2013 class. He chose DePaul over offers from Boston College, Illinois, Michigan State, NC State and Northwestern.
