The Red Raider Confidential is sponsored by Cardinal's Sports Center. If you need Texas Tech gear or Under Armour apparel, the best place to go in our opinion is Cardinal's -- they have a tremendous location in Lubbock (Slide and S. Loop 289), a store in Plano and a fantastic selection on their website.
This week in the Cardinal's Red Raider Confidential, we have a detailed update on the Texas Tech football team's offseason workouts. Could there be a major surprise in store at receiver? How solid are things at OL? Also, we update you on a potential SEC transfer who hopes to land with the Red Raiders. Plus, a ton of scoop on Texas Tech's 2018 recruiting efforts.Â
OFFSEASON WORKOUT NOTES
Here are a few noteworthy things I've heard about how Texas Tech's summer workouts went and where things sit with the team as preseason camp approaches...
I think the running back depth chart is pretty clearly set. Justin Stockton will be the starter, DeMarcus Felton is the backup and Corey Dauphine will sit behind him. Stockton had a good offseason, and I think the Red Raiders are excited about him getting the opportunity to be the feature back. Don't sleep on Felton as the backup, either. I think anyone that's been around the program would tell you he probably has the best natural vision and feel for running with the ball in his hands of the group. As for Dauphine, he's just got to keep learning the system and continue to make process as a pass catcher. I'd expect the team to try to get him the ball in creative ways, though, such as with jet sweeps.
How does senior Quinton White fit into the picture with the backfield? His role will be as the fullback in two-back sets, blocking and catching the ball out of the backfield. He'll get reps as a wing back, too, when Tech goes into sets with one between the tackle and guard or off-tackle. He'll get a few carries, too, but it looks like he will mostly have a specialized role.
