Texas Tech basketball landed another big fish on Monday morning with the addition of 3-star guard Clarence Nadolny. Nadolny, who is originally from France, had previously narrowed his list of 14 offers down to a top three of Texas Tech, Iowa State and West Virginia before choosing the Red Raiders.

Before we can look at what this means big picture, let's take a look at Clarence the player.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Classic combo guard, capable of both handling the rock and playing off the ball. Good size at 6-foot-3, 6-foot-4 and 180 pounds.

- Great athlete, he has hops to grab rebounds over big men, and the speed and ability to blow by defenders. Can dunk and also block shots.

- Monster defensive potential. Good instincts allow him to get his hands on passes, rack up steals and get blocks. Getting him in John Reilly's strength system will turn him into a bulldog on that end.

- Good understanding of the game, repeatedly gets into the lane and draws extra defenders. Good passer capable of seeing the floor and getting his teammates easy buckets. Previously told RedRaiderSports.com he models his game after John Wall, and in that aspect it's easy to see why.

- Strong finisher at the rim. Shows the ability to take contact at the rim and still finish his shot attempt.

- Improving shooter from deep. Per Zach Smart, who is the director of Sports Media Services at Scotland Campus Sports, "Nadolny has improved as a reliable 3-point shooter who can stick it from NBA range."

- Stat stuffer. A lot of players can score, what sets Nadolny apart from others is his ability to rebound, get assists, steals and blocks.

2019-2020 AND FUTURE EXPECTATIONS

A lot of Nadolny's instant impact will depend on how Texas Tech finishes this 2019 class off. As of this writing, Tech is still trying to add another guard. The current top target is Texas A&M grad transfer Admon Gilder. If Tech lands Gilder, he would be a guy who commands 30+ minutes per game.

I do think either way he will have a role off the bench, similar to one that Kyler Edwards had as a true freshman this season. Let's take a look at the current depth chart and Nadolny's path to playing time.

Returning guards: Davide Moretti, Kyler Edwards, Kevin McCullar

New guards: Jahmius Ramsey, Clarence Nadolny, TJ Shannon (wing)

Davide Moretti is the lone returning starter and figures to see plenty of minutes as a starting guard. Kyler Edwards had a good freshman season, really shining in the NCAA tournament and he is another guy who should see more minutes.

Kevin McCullar, while technically returning, joined the team midway through the season and redshirted. He is a former top 60 recruit himself and will compete with Nadolny for bench guard minutes.

Jahmius Ramsey is the highest ever recruit to sign with Tech. Barring injury he will certainly see the floor and most likely play 20-25+ minutes per game. Terrence Shannon is a four-star wing who can also play off ball at the 2.

All of that is to say that there is a lot of talent in front of Nadolny. The good thing for him is, if he's as good as advertised, coach Beard and staff have shown they're not afraid to play a freshman ahead of a veteran player.

Moving forward? I think the sky is the limit for Clarence. He has all the tools in the toolbox and is the ideal two-way guard for a Chris Beard coached team. The fact that he was so heavily recruited in the conference, offers from Iowa State, TCU and West Virginia, and chose Tech is a very good sign for the Red Raiders too.

LEVEL'S TAKE

"Nadolny gives the Red Raiders another quality combo guard with lots of upside and length to his game. Between Kevin McCullar, Terrence Shannon and Nadolny, the Red Raiders are set at guard for the next several years.

Nadolny is a combo guard but you can't really compare him to anyone on the current team this year. He's a fast, quick playmaker with a passer first mentality and he can create his own shot too. Some Nick Weiler-Babb in him which is quite a compliment.

I think his commitment also means you are likely to see Tech be done taking high school prospects with their remaining spot(s). It'll almost assuredly be all grad transfer or sit out transfer types now with a slim chance at another high schooler."
