Wallace still solid with the Red Raiders

Texas Tech is taking one of their biggest defensive line classes in school history, and Dallas (Texas) Skyline defensive tackle Joseph Wallace is one of the bellcow members of the group. He committed to Tech back in August over offers from Washington, Purdue, Iowa State, Colorado State and several others and was primarily recruited to the scarlet and black by then-defensive coach Mike Smith, who is now no longer on the staff.

WHAT'S NEXT?:
Wallace did not make it to Lubbock for any Tech games this season, as conflicts with his high school football schedule rose up, but he plans to take his official visit with the rest of the 2016 recruiting class on January 22nd. Last week, Wallace announced on Twitter that he had been selected to play in the Blue-Grey All-American Game.
Since pulling the trigger and committing to the Red Raiders at the end of the summer, other schools have backed off the 5.5 three-star because "all (his) coaches and everyone knows (he's) 100 percent to Tech."
However, news broke last night that the Red Raiders were parting ways with assistant coaches Mike Smith and Kevin Curtis, both of whom had a big hand in landing the Skyline DT. Red Raider Sports checked in with the six-foot-one, 315-pounder to see where things sat after the change.
IN HIS WORDS:
"Honestly, Coach Smith is one of the guys that was going to be my position coach, but to be honest, nothing has changed. I'm still 100 percent Texas Tech."
"They have a lot of d-linemen leaving and they have one freshmen up there playing and they have some young guys coming in and some JUCOs. When I come in, they expect me to make an impact right away."
OUR REACTION:
With Smith and Curtis no longer on staff, the first priority of Gibbs and the other assistants is to solidify the commitments from defensive prospects that were being recruited by the duo. Wallace reaffirming his commitment and status with the Red Raiders is great news for Tech, and they can focus on rallying other commits. -Will McKay
