Vasher set to visit Lubbock this weekend

At face value, Texas Tech’s core of receivers essentially returns intact heading into 2016, despite losing all-time leading receiver Jakeem Grant to graduation and the suspension of Devin Lauderdale. Wichita Falls (Texas) Rider wide receiver and Tech commit TJ Vasher doesn't care, however. Even with incoming wideouts like Derrick Willies and Da’Quan Bowman looking to contribute early, the four-star prospect remains unfazed and has the mindset that he too can leave his mark and provide offense for the explosive Red Raiders early on.

Vasher will officially visit Lubbock this weekend on the 22nd.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Vasher is still finishing up basketball season at Wichita Falls-Rider but remains in constant communication with offensive coordinator and inside receivers coach Eric Morris. The two spoke on Monday about Vasher’s upcoming official visit to Tech, and Morris even visited Vasher on-campus at Rider last week. At 6-foot-4, Vasher will add even more size to a core including guys like Dylan Cantrell, Jakari Dillard, Donta Thompson and Quan Shorts. Now, the outside receiver will head to Lubbock this weekend with the majority of the rest of the 2016 class. Vasher claims to be “pretty solid” with Tech right now as well.

IN HIS WORDS

"For one, (coach Morris) told me I have a chance to come in and compete for a spot this year. So I’m just ready to get in and go to work and give my best to this offense. They do have a lot of explosive players but I’m just ready to get out there and work."

If he could have a change of heart:

“I don’t know, not really. I’m just ready for signing Day. I’m pretty solid with Tech, they’re my school.”

On another in-home visit:

“Coach Jones -- I think -- is coming real soon. I can’t name all of (the visiting coaches) off the top of my head but I know coach Jones is going to be coming soon.”

OUR REACTION

Vasher is one of the top priorities for the Red Raiders to try and hold onto until National Signing Day, and it sounds like Tech is clearly out in front and in good position with the WR as of now. He'll head to Lubbock for his official this weekend, and the hope would be to firmly solidify his commitment on the trip with the majority of his classmates, including friends like DT Ivory Jackson and QB Jett Duffey.
