Throwback Thursday: Tech wins triple OT thriller in Fort Worth

Some games are just flat out wilder than others. They often earn the moniker of barburner, a contest filled with unbelievable twists and turns with copious amounts of scoring and memorable plays from both teams.

A game that certainly checks off all the boxes to fit that bill is the 2012 contest between Texas Tech and TCU in Fort Worth.

Both were ranked in the top 25 going in, with the Red Raiders at number 17 and the Horned Frogs at number 23, both bringing a 5-1 record to the table as they crossed the halfway mark for the season.

It was a back and forth affair where both teams made scoring runs to take double digit leads, Tech seemingly positioning themselves to come out on top 36-26 after a 47 yard breakout touchdown run by Kenny Williams with 4:06 left in the contest.

Freshman TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin came out guns blazing in the final four minutes, however, and the contest continued on into overtime tied at 36-36.

The Red Raiders would come away with the last laugh on the signature play of the season in triple season, however. On 2nd and goal from the eight yard line, Seth Doege completed the game-winning pass on a play-action throw to Alex Torres on a post route, who found open space thanks to the run fake.

As a result, Tech earned their first win over TCU in Big 12 play.
