San Angelo (Texas) Central quarterback Maverick McIvor is a Red Raider once more. The three-star prospect re-committed to Texas Tech on Thursday, nearly two weeks after re-opening his recruitment due to the program's coaching transition.
Interest flooded in for McIvor following his decommitment, with coaches from Miami, UCLA and USC expressing interest. He had an official visit setup with the Trojans for this weekend, but that trip has been canceled.
McIvor is set to be the Red Raiders' highest-ranked quarterback signee since Patrick Mahomes in the 2014 class. He chose Texas Tech over offers from Arizona State, Iowa, Ole Miss, North Carolina, USC and others.
CLARE'S TAKE:
"This is a big win for new head coach Matt Wells and his staff. The market for 2019 quarterback prospects is slim this close to the Early Signing Period.
"Though McIvor was sidelined with a knee injury this season, he remains one of the better signal callers in the state of Texas for the 2019 cycle and this 'recommitment' is a big momentum swing for the new Red Raider coaching staff heading into the Early Signing Period." - RedRaiderSports.com recruiting analyst Matt Clare
