Lubbock Cooper 2017 safety Ty Thomas decommitted from Washington State one week ago and right now the 5.5 three-star
prospect is focused primarily on two programs.
WHAT'S NEXT?:
Right now, Thomas holds offers from Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Washington State and East Carolina, but still has about 14 months until signing day 2017, so that number will likely go up between now and then. Thomas is coming off an impressive junior season in which he racked up 110 tackles and two interceptions before the Lubbock Cooper Pirates fell to El Paso Eastlake in the second round of the playoffs. This year the 5-foot-11, 195-pounder primarily played safety and appeared occasionally on offense, but as a senior he expects to factor in more as a running back to help LCP make another solid run. At this point, Thomas is unsure if he will run track but he's planning to attend Rivals camps and Nike camps prior to his senior season.
IN HIS WORDS:
"Oklahoma State and Tech are my big ones right now, but I'm still open to whatever. I'm still letting everything play out with all the coaching changes and the bowl games. I'll probably make a decision in mid-January. I'm not really leaning either way."
OUR REACTION:
Seeing as he's a local product, the Red Raider coaching staff has had ample
opportunities to get a first-hand look at the junior safety. They've obviously
seen enough to extend an offer, which happened on Tuesday. His uncle is a Texas
Tech defensive legend, and David Gibbs and his staff believe the DB can help
them turn the current defense around. -- Will McKay
