Welcome to this week's edition of The Recruiting Six-Pack. The Texas Tech Red Raiders have been making noise on the recruiting trail by picking up commitments from three players in the transfer portal. They will also host some top high school prospects for Red Raider Junior Day this weekend. With that said, let's look at what's happening with Red Raider recruiting.
Red Raider commits
James Hansen. Senior defensive lineman, Nevada. Not ranked by Rivals Transfer Portal.
Texas Tech picked up a commitment from former Nevada Wolfpack defensive lineman James Hansen on January 6. The Red Raiders offered him on January 3, and he had offers from Coastal Carolina, North Texas, San Diego State, and UMass. In 2023, he finished with 18 tackles, 4.5 TFL, and one sack. Hansen adds to a Texas Tech class that ranks tenth in the Transfer Portal Rankings.
Jason Llewellyn. Sophomore tight end, Oklahoma. 5.5, three-star TE, and #489 in Rivals National Portal.
The Red Raiders received a commitment from former Oklahoma tight end Jason Llewellyn on January 7. Coming out of Aledo (TX) High School, he was rated a 5.8, four-star TE in the 2022 class. He chose the Sooners over offers from the Red Raiders, Alabama, Baylor, Kansas State, Michigan, TCU, and Texas, among others. Llewellyn appeared in three games for the Sooners in 2023.
Javeon Wilcox. Freshman defensive back, TCU. Not ranked by Rivals Transfer Portal.
The Red Raiders picked up a commitment from former TCU Horned Frogs defensive back Javeon Wilcox on January 7. He was ranked a 5.8, four-star safety out of Temple (TX) Lake Belton High School in 2023. Wilcox chose TCU over offers from Texas Tech, Arkansas, Baylor, SMU, Tulsa, and UTSA.
Red Raider targets
Domonic Cook Jr. 2027 athlete, Buffalo, New York. (St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute). Not ranked by Rivals.
Buffalo (NY) St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute athlete Dominic Cook Jr. picked up an offer from the Red Raiders on December 29. The offer was the third for him, as he received one from Maryland and Boston College. He is the son of the former University of Buffalo and NFL player Dominic Cook Sr.
Jaxson Wilson. 2027 defensive tackle, Garland, Texas. (Lakeview Centennial HS). Not ranked by Rivals.
The Red Raiders offered 2027 Garland Lakeview Centennial defensive tackle Jaxson Wilson on December 30. The offer was his first. He also took a game day visit to Baylor when they hosted Texas in late November. Wilson is the younger brother of Baylor defensive lineman Trey Wilson.
Shawn Hammerbeck. 2025 athlete, Winner, South Dakota. (Winner HS). Not ranked by Rivals.
The Red Raiders offered 2025 Winner (SD) High School athlete Shawn Hammerbeck on January 10. It was his first Power Five offer and second overall, as he also holds one from North Dakota State.
