The Recruiting Six-Pack: Red Raiders have busy first day of October

The Texas Tech Red Raiders picked up their first Big 12 Conference win last weekend when they beat the Houston Cougars 49-28. The Red Raiders (2-3, 1-1) will look to keep the momentum going and will now hit the road to face the Baylor Bears (2-3, 1-1) in Waco on Saturday night. On the recruiting front, Texas Tech picked up a preferred walk-on commitment and extended a few offers as well. So, let's look at what is happening with Red Raider recruiting.

Texas Tech commits

Cameron Dickey. Athlete, Austin, Texas. (Crockett HS). 5.5, three-star ATH.

Cameron Dickey committed to Texas Tech on June 7. He chose the Red Raiders over offers from Lamar and Texas State. Dickey led the Cougars to a 56-0 win in his game last Friday night. He was 11/20 for 146 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 191 yards and five touchdowns. Next up for the Cougars (2-3) are the Navarro Vikings (2-3).

Rylan Vagana. Long snapper, Santa Ana, California. (Mater Dei HS). Not ranked by Rivals.

The Red Raiders picked up a preferred walk-on commitment from Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei long snapper Rylan Vagana on October 1. Vagana chose Texas Tech over the Air Force, Army, Pennsylvania, and San Diego State offers. He also plays safety and has eight tackles and an interception for the Monarchs (6-0), who next play JSerra Catholic Lions (4-2).

Texas Tech targets

Lloyd Jones III. 2025 athlete, Hitchcock, Texas. (Hitchcock HS). Not ranked by Rivals.

Lloyd Jones III was offered by the Red Raiders on October 1, which was his first Power Five offer. He has four other offers from Colorado State, North Texas, Texas State, and UTSA. Jones has helped lead the Bulldogs to a 6-0 start this season. They will next take on the Yoakum Bulldogs (4-2) on the road.

Keilan Chavies. 2026 athlete, Hutto, Texas. (Hutto HS). Not ranked by Rivals.

The Red Raiders also offered Keilan Chavies on October 1, which was his second offer. His first offer was from Houston in September. On the season, Chavies has rushed 54 times for 331 yards and four touchdowns. He also has 19 receptions for 389 yards and three touchdowns for the Hippos (1-4). Next up for them is a road game against the Harker Heights Knights (3-3).

Davion Peters. 2026 athlete, Temple, Texas. (Lake Belton HS). Not ranked by Rivals.

Davion Peters was yet another recruit who picked up an offer from the Red Raiders on October 1. He picked up his first from TCU the day before. Peters has 14 receptions for 328 yards and five touchdowns on the season. He has also rushed ten times for 110 yards and a touchdown for the Broncos (5-1), who next take on the Killeen Kangaroos (4-1) at home.

Caleb Smith. 2026 athlete, Allen, Texas. (Allen HS). Not ranked by Rivals.

The Red Raiders offered Caleb Smith in June 2022, which was his third offer at the time. His first was from Utah and now has six offers, including Grambling State, Incarnate Word, Liberty, and Memphis. On the season, he has 14 receptions for 186 yards for the Eagles (4-2), who have a bye this week.
