The Recruiting Six-Pack

Welcome to this week's edition of The Recruiting Six-Pack. College Football is back. After a sneak preview last Saturday with a handful of games, the season's official start begins this weekend. Well, actually, tonight, as there are 11 games on the schedule. With that being the case, recruits will be on hand to visit with teams and watch those games. Let's look at some Texas Tech targets and some Texas High School recruits.

Texas Tech targets

Micah Strickland. 2025 cornerback, Brownsboro, TX (Brownsboro HS). 5.8, four-star CB, #167 nationally, #17 CB, and #30 in Texas.

The Red Raiders offered Micah Strickland in November 2022 and now has five offers, including UTSA, Colorado State, Nebraska, and Houston. He was in Lubbock at the end of July for the pool day. Strickland is one of the few dozen players invited to the Red Raiders home opener next weekend against the Oregon Ducks.

Kamran Williams. 2025 running back, Jefferson, TX (Jefferson HS). 5.7, three-star RB, #30 RB, and #71 in Texas.

Kamran Williams is another recruit who was invited to the Jones next weekend. TTU offered him, in June 2022, his second offer and first Power Five. Others include Texas Southern, UTSA, Louisiana Tech, Tulsa, and Sam Houston State, which he picked up earlier this week.

Smith Orogbo. 2025 strongside defensive end, Houston. TX (Hastings HS). Not ranked by Rivals.

Smith Orogbo picked up his second offer yesterday from the Red Raiders, adding to his first one from Arkansas State. He is another prospect the Red Raiders invited to next weekend's Oregon game. Orogbo was at the Louisiana Tech/Florida International last weekend.

Trennedy Whatley. 2025 athlete, Fayetteville, GA (Fayette County HS). Not ranked by Rivals.

Trennedy Whatley received his first offer from the Red Raiders yesterday. He plays both wide receiver and cornerback for the Tigers. Whatley had one reception for a 78-yard touchdown pass in the loss to Jonesboro Mundy's Mill last week.

Karece Hoyt. 2027 athlete, Frisco, TX (Lone Star HS). Not ranked by Rivals.

Karece Hoyt was offered by Tech on Monday, August 28, which was his first. He plays quarterback for Frisco currently. In his first varsity game last week against Texarkana (TX) HS, he rushed for 85 yards, passed for 70 yards, and scored two touchdowns.

Texas High School recruits

Nigel Smith, strongside defensive end, Melissa, TX (Melissa HS). 5.9, four-star SDE, #82 nationally, #5 SDE, and #16 in Texas.

Nigel Smith will announce his commitment on September 8. He had over 30 offers but announced his top eight schools in May. Arkansas, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Rutgers, Texas, and Texas A&M were the ones to make his final cut. However, the Aggies and Sooners look to be the top two programs here, as he has made plenty of visits to both. This one could go either way, but I like the Sooners here.
