Texas Tech offers Shavers

A total of three new 2017 offers were handed out last week as the Texas Tech coaches hit the road for the open recruiting period. On Thursday afternoon, Texas Tech outside receivers and special teams coach Darrin Chiaverini stopped by Lewisville (Texas) to see 2017 wide receiver Tyrell Shavers.

WHAT'S NEXT?:
Shavers does not currently have any visits setup at the moment, but did discuss
a potential unofficial visit to see the Texas Tech camp with Chiaverini. He plans to visit the local programs - SMU, TCU, and others whenever possible later this off season. Shavers is awaiting invitations to both the Rivals Camp and NFTC Regionals later this spring. Until then, he will go straight into the baseball season where he pitches and plays outfield for the Lewisville varsity baseball team.
IN HIS WORDS:
"Last week was the first time I had talked with Texas Tech," Shavers said. "Coach Chiaverini stopped by the school last week and told my coaches he was interested. We messaged later that day after school and then connected for a call. He had already watched my film and was very impressed. We talked about my potential, how he played in the NFL, how he could help me develop as a wide receiver and then he offered me a scholarship to Texas Tech.
"We talked about the offense as well. They pass the ball a lot and I really like that. We don't really pass the ball that much here at Lewisville, but our coaches might be opening up the offense a little more next season. Coach Chiaverini really wants me to come visit the campus later this spring. He wants to show me around and let me see what Texas Tech is all about."
OUR REACTION:
At 6-foot-6, 200-pounds, Shavers already holds early offers from SMU and Texas Tech, but several other programs are keeping tabs on the standout receiver after he finished with 37 receptions for 800 yards and 13 touchdowns during his junior season. He turned 16 years old this fall and should easily be able to add weight onto his frame over the next year. I predict you will continue hearing his name as National Signing Day 2016 passes and the junior prospects begin to pile up offers in the spring time. -- Matt Clare
