We caught up with Thomas Leggett, who signed with the 2017 class as a transfer out of Allan Hancock Community College in Santa Maria, CA as part of our Q&A series. Check out his answers to get to know him a little better.
Q: What made you decide to sign with Texas Tech?
"Just the campus and everything, being on campus felt like home to me. Also the coaching staff, Coach Scott is a real good guy… That’s kind of what sealed it for me."
Q: What position will you be playing in the defensive backfield?
"I’ll be playing safety and a little bit of nickel as well, so I’ll be moving around a little bit."
Q: If you could have any football player in the world on your team, who would that be?
"LaDainian Tomlinson. He was the first real player I knew about back in the day. The dark visor, No. 21, he was kind of my first role model when it came to football."
Q: What’s your current height and weight?
"Six-foot, 185 pounds."
Q: In-N-Out or Whataburger?
"Definitely Whataburger."
Q: What stuck out to you most about Texas Tech and Lubbock when you visited?
"Probably the hospitality, just the people in the town… Everybody in that town looks forward to football and it just has a big influence on everything, so that atmosphere is really cool."
Q: If you could go out to dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
"I’d probably say Lil Wayne. He’s one of my favorite rappers so I’d just ask him how he did it, how he came up with all of his rhymes and just how he does what he does."
Have you built a bond with anyone already on the team or in your signing class?
"In the signing class, I know a few of the guys, You know, they kind of hit me up on Twitter. But when I was there my host was Doug (Coleman), number 25, but he also played DB so I’m sure once I get there I’ll get to know him a little better. But he was a real cool dude."
What are your expectations for yourself in your first season at Texas Tech?
"Right now my expectation is just trying to win a spot and just go out there and compete the best I can. Coming in, I’m not expecting a starting position but obviously, I’m going to go out there and work."
Favorite movie that you saw recently?
"Probably the Fridays (movie series), those are my favorites."
If you could pick one song to play while you run out of the tunnel on gameday, what would it be?
"Probably 'We Alright' by Euro, Birdman, and Lil Wayne."
Q: Who’s your favorite player currently playing, and why?
"Jamal Adams from LSU. Just the way he plays the position, and he has a good work ethic… So he’s probably my favorite player as of right now."
Q: What’s one last thing you want to tell the fans at Texas Tech before you head to Lubbock?
"I’ve got this saying and I kind of said it in the beginning; this year it’s gonna be a movie. Because it’s almost going to be fake, the stuff that’s going on. But yeah that’s what I want to say, it’s gonna be a movie this year. I’m really excited to be a part of Texas Tech."
