O-lineman gaining interest from Tech
Godley (Texas) offensive lineman Blake Hickey was one of quite a few prospects to get checked out by a Red Raider coach at their school yesterday. That's because is out scouting talent during the open period, and O-line coach Lee Hays is looking for the player to add to his position group.

"Coach Hays, the offensive line coach stopped by. I had talked to him the night before and he said he was going to stop by. I also talked to coach Morris earlier on yesterday, and he told me they were going to make a stop. He didn't make it, so it was just coach Hays that stopped by."
This isn't the first time coach Hays has stopped by to see about the three-star prospect. The two parties have been in regular contact with each other and are working towards a strong relationship.
"This is the second time that coach Hays stopped by my school. He stopped by during the last open period," he said. "He is mainly the coach I have been talking to. We've been talking back and forth and then he visited today. We're continuing to build that relationship and hopefully it leads to bigger and better things."
Hickey hinted at an offer from the Red Raiders, and the only thing he feels holding them back is that he lost a bit of weight due to an illness. But, once he gets back to his normal 275-280 pounds things should be good to go.
Despite already holding eight offers from schools like California, Houston, Duke, and Northwestern, an offer from the Red Raiders would be big for the prospect.
"Tech would be pretty high on my list because I have always liked Tech. Some of my family members used to go there and they are kind of pushing me towards Tech but that's just what they do, that's how everybody is. I like Tech, and if they offered me they would be pretty high on my list."
"I really like the coaching staff I really like Coach Kingsbury. I really just like everything about the school. One of my cousins used to go there, so I have been out to a game before, and I loved it. Jones stadium, everything was awesome. The student section is pretty crazy."
When Hays and Hickey get in contact with each other, their conversations usually center around getting up to Lubbock for a visit. That could happen this summer according to the O-lineman.
"I'm actually going to try to make a visit to Texas Tech sometime during the summer or the fall. I'll definitely be there in the fall and will catch a game, but I'm going to try and get up there before then, sometime this summer."
The six-foot-four prospect is projected to the guard position on the next level but is working on snapping the ball so he can move to center if needed.
"Most schools are telling me that I'm going to play guard, but they want me to start practicing my snaps just in case they want to move me over to center so that I could be more versatile."
At Texas Tech, the Godley lineman feels like he could really fit into the scheme they run on offense.
"I feel like I can fit in there because I'm a big guy, but I'm not big and slow and sloppy like some of the guys are who are just big. I feel like I am a big, athletic guy that can move, and I can fit in there pretty well. I play nasty, fast, and physical."
Arizona State and California are also hard after the Texas prospect, and he is planning some visits to the two schools.
"Arizona State and Cal have been talking to me a lot. Those are the two schools that have been talking to me pretty much every day. I hold an offer from California. Arizona State hasn't offered yet but that's only because they haven't seen me in person yet. They said they could be by sometime this spring."
"I'm working on visits to Cal and Arizona State, and I hope to maybe get to those schools this summer."
Hickey has no plans for a commitment at this time.
