New OL target for Coach Hays

The past few weeks have presented a small group of new names on the recruiting trail for Texas Tech. There are players visiting for the opening of the Red Raiders' spring practices, a couple of new offers, and a handful of new targets the staff is beginning to recruit.

Texas Tech offensive line Coach Lee Hays has already secured three early commitments on the offensive line for 2017 and continues to identify new targets this spring. The latest player to hear from Coach Hays is Angleton (Texas) offensive tackle Kevin Davis.

"I have been in touch with the offensive line coach, Lee Hays, for about a week," Davis said. "He told me that he really liked my film and wants to start getting to know me. He likes how I can get up and down the field, and how athletic I am for a lineman. We haven't really talked about an exact position on the line, just my abilities on the field and what he liked on tape."

Davis and Coach Hays also discussed a potential visit to Lubbock this off-season.

"Coach Hays shared their spring practice schedule with me and told me that I could visit anywhere between March 6th and April 16th," Davis said. "He said anytime during the spring practice schedule works and I can come on any of the practice dates, then that would be my junior day.

"I definitely want to take a visit out there. I grew up liking Texas Tech, Texas, and Texas A&M. My Dad is a big fan of Texas Tech, and we have watched them play in some big games over the years. I don't really know much about the school or the program though. I'm hoping to get more information from Coach Hays and eventually get out there for a visit."

The 6-foot-4, 285-pound prospect holds two offers from UTSA and North Texas with a handful of programs beginning to show interest.

"North Texas offered me this week and UTSA offered me on a recent visit," Davis said. "I'm planning visits to Texas State and Houston for spring practices, and I'm just waiting until the summertime to take some other visits. My goal is to see a lot of the schools recruiting me before my senior season starts.

"I will probably decide during the season, or right before. I just want to make sure all of my SAT scores and grades are taken care of before announcing my commitment."

Current an unrated prospect, Davis also plays varsity basketball and throws the shot-put on the varsity track and field team at Angleton.
