Miller eager to take his official

We're now only a few weeks away from National Signing Day, and the most unpredictable period of the entire recruiting cycle is in full swing. Players often make last minute defections and commitments in short periods of time, but one prospect the Texas Tech coaching staff doesn't need to worry about is Keller (Texas) defensive end Houston Miller.

The Metrpolex native has been one of the staunchest supporters of all things red and black since he committed early in the summer, and that appears to continue to be the case, as he decked himself out in his future school's colors for his senior football banquet on Sunday night and is extremely eager to make his way out to Lubbock for his official visit.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Like most of the prospects in the rest of the 2016 recruiting class, Miller is currently focused on his spring sports - which are powerlifting and track - while simultaneously preparing to sign with Tech on February 3rd.

Before the paperwork is signed and filed, however, Miller will take his official with the majority of the already committed class on January 22nd. Honestly, he's ready to get things over with and be a Red Raider already, a sentiment shared by his soon-to-defensive coordinator David Gibbs.

IN HIS WORDS

On taking his official visit: "I think the vast majority of the commits are going down (on the 22nd). There may be one or two who end up not, but yeah, I think we're all heading down there," he said. "I'm excited, man. I'm going to visit even after that, just because I want to and it's the place I want to be. I'm real excited to hang out and see everything at least one more time before I finally head up there, though."

On Coach Gibbs, where things are with a new defensive line coach: "I actually DM'ed Coach Gibbs (yesterday)," he said. "I just hit him up to see how everything is going on. He's really excited to get me up there. He said he really needs me and wants me there as soon as I can get there. He's also told me as soon as he knows who the new defensive line coach is going to be, he told me one of the first stops they're going to make is to my front door. He said he's excited and going to let me know as soon as he can, so I'm just really excited about that. He hasn't said names, but we've talked, and it sounds like he's pretty much down to two."

OUR REACTION

Miller's been all in with Tech since day one, and things haven't changed one bit at any point throughout the recruiting process, even after Mike Smith and several other defensive assistants were let go. He's solid as a rock, and he can't wait to both sign and find out who the Red Raiders' new defensive line coach will be. - Will McKay
