Mahoney reschedules Texas Tech official

Between school, football and recruiting, Woodland Hills (Calif.) Pierce C.C. defensive tackle David Mahoney doesn't find himself with a lot of free time. At the moment, his grades are currently occupying most of his attention.
"Everything is good," Mahoney said. "I'm just doing my part of being eligible and just getting these grades right. I'm trying to take care of all of my academics so that I can graduate on time."
The four-star prospect is on track to graduate in December. With 10 offers on the table, the 6-foot-2, 285-pounder realizes that he has to start narrowing down his college choices.
"I'm just waiting to go on these visits," he said. "A lot of my visits are getting delayed because of the state playoffs. I was supposed to leave Friday to go to Texas Tech but we have the playoffs going on."
That first-round game will keep Mahoney from getting on a plane this weekend but he confirmed that checking out the Red Raiders in person is something he wants to do before making a decision.
"I like the fact that the team is up and coming," Mahoney said. "I like the coaching staff. The defensive back coach came to one of my practices. I only know a little bit about them and that's why I want to go on a visit. I can only go by what they tell me and what I see on TV."
The only program that Mahoney has gotten a chance to see firsthand is Tennessee. He visited the Volunteers back in September.
"I like the coaching staff at Tennessee," he said. "How the players have bonded together is pretty neat, especially since Lane Kiffin has only been there one year."
If Mahoney's team isn't in the playoffs next weekend, he will take a previously scheduled visit for West Virginia. He's also talking about trying to take trips out to Florida International, Arizona State and San Diego State.
"I'm going to try to get at least three or four more visits in," Mahoney said. "If we keep winning, then I'm going to have to go off of what I know from over the phone. I don't think I'm going to commit to somewhere I haven't visited though. I'd like to see the school and get the feel for it."
Aside from the programs already mentioned, Mahoney also holds offers from Iowa State, Nevada, New Mexico State, Utah State and Washington State.
