Leggett chooses Texas Tech as a PWO

Texas Tech's made a habit of bringing on quality preferred walk-on receivers in recent seasons, and they may have snagged their latest gem.

On Thursday night Georgetown (Texas) wide receiver Caden Leggett pulled the trigger and committed to the Red Raiders as a preferred walk-on. The three-star receiver picked up a PWO offer from the Red Raiders on January 13th and has been in contact with head coach Kliff Kingsbury since.

Leggett mentioned he is excited to have the opportunity to play for the program he has admired growing up.

"I've been a Red Raider since I was little. I have a lot of family up in Lubbock and I've been down there a couple of times. I really have a good relationship with Coach Kingsbury and we had a great talk today. I just love the offense, the school and the culture and everything they're about so it's going to be a good place to call home."

The Georgetown native has been on Coach Kingsbury's radar since the beginning of his high school career, and the head coach sees Leggett contributing to the offense soon.

"He (Kingsbury) said he's been tracking me since I was a freshman and sophomore. He and I talked about how the roster's filling up quick, everyone wants to be a Red Raider that's just how the recruiting process goes. He just mentioned that I will have every opportunity to be a vital part of this offense early and so I'm just excited about that."

Leggett mentioned he is well aware of the program’s lineage of great receivers but also said he enjoys being a walk-on.

"A lot of those guys like Michael Crabtree, Wes Welker and Danny Amedola have been great at Tech, and some others have been walk-ons as well. Then some guys like Partrick Mahomes only had a few offers coming out of high school, so I enjoy being a walk-on a little bit, having that chip on my shoulder and being underrated a little bit. I just want to come out and show them what I can do."

Leggett said he already has a visit scheduled for next weekend to tour the facilities and campus. When Leggett arrives to Lubbock, he will see a familiar face who just recently became a Red Raider.

"I know Sterling Galban, he's a receiver commit there. He's from Burnet so we've been in touch quite a while and we're excited to play together."

The six-foot-two, 190 pound receiver feels he can be a big playmaker in Tech's Air Raid offense.

"I can just be an all-out playmaker. When the ball's in the air, I'm going to do whatever it takes to go get and just beat guys off the line and go get it no matter where it's thrown."

Rated a 5.6 three star receiver by Rivals, Leggett chose to walk on at Texas Tech over offers from Army, Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Stephen F. Austin, and Texas State. He also held preferred walk-on offers from UTSA and SMU.
