Jarrett Culver is a priority target for Chris Beard, Texas Tech

Lubbock (Texas) Coronado guard Jarrett Culver knows that he is a top priority for Chris Beard and the Red Raider basketball program. Beard extended an offer to Culver in April shortly after he took over at Texas Tech and has been recruiting the 6-foot-5, 170-pound prospect ever since.

"When he got the job, he called me that night and we talked a little. Then the next day, he offered a scholarship," Culver said Tuesday in an interview with Lubbock's Double T 97.3 FM. "It was pretty quick - the first two days he got the job. It went by real fast.

"They really want me. I was one of the first ones that they actually gave an actual scholarship out to. It makes me feel wanted and shows they really mean that they want me."

Culver's overall recruitment has also progressed quickly. He's gone from relatively under-the-radar to a high-profile prospect in the span of a few months. Texas Tech was the first Power Five program to offer, and Baylor, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas all quickly followed suit.

"It's been crazy," Culver said. "A crazy blessing, honestly. It's always been a dream to go D-1. My whole basketball career I've been dreaming to get scholarships from D-1 colleges and now it's all happening. It's just crazy."

Even though Culver's high school is less than three miles away from the Red Raiders' United Supermarkets Arena, he doesn't feel any extra pressure to pick the hometown team.

"I don't feel any pressure at all," Culver said. "I know wherever I go, my family's going to support me. I know whatever I do, I have support behind me. Staying home, going away, I just keep praying about it so I make the right decision."

The three-star standout claims no favorites and hopes to make a decision sooner rather than later.

"As of right now, I'm thinking (of deciding in) August or fall just before basketball season so I can really focus on where I'm going," Culver said. "I won't have to worry about anything and I can really just focus on school ball."
