After landing receiver Kesean Carter earlier this week, Texas Tech received another verbal commit in Waco (Texas) Midway offensive guard Hakeem White on Thursday. White is the Red Raiders' 15th commit and fourth offensive lineman of the 2018 class.
The Waco native received an offer from Texas Tech on April 26th and has been in contact with offensive line coach Brandon Jones ever since. White paid a visit to the campus on Thursday and it was enough to convince him to pull the trigger.
"When I went down there yesterday, they really made me feel like I was at home, I really liked the campus and the way they work with you with the academics and all. It's just a really good place so that's what really made me decide on them."
"The coaches were all cool, they were excited and everything was laid out and planned," he added. "I told the coaches two days before and when I got there everything was just in order, it just felt good."
White said he also took notice of the newly renovated locker room as well as progress being made on the new sports performance center.
"I did get to see the new locker room, it's very nice. I really didn't get to see the new center that much. I just saw the outside of it, but it's big and I heard it's one of the largest."
White said during his meeting with the coaching staff, they discussed how he would fit in on the offensive line.
"I'm going to be playing an inside position whatever position that is, center or guard. I've played tackle before, but when I get there I'm going to be playing an inside position."
"I'm going to go out there and do the best I can and start working as soon as I can," he said. "The coaches said they think I should redshirt freshman year."
The six-foot-three, 285 lbs. offensive lineman shared his thoughts on Lubbock and the gameday environment.
"I've heard that it's one of the only schools in the west so everyone comes to support their team so it's really packed on Saturdays during the game."
With his commitment to the Red Raiders, White says his recruitment is locked down.
"Yeah I'm going to lock in with Texas Tech, I'm not really going to look at anyone else."
The three-star recruit chose Texas Tech over offers from Houston, Kansas State, Missouri, North Texas, UTSA, Colorado State, Texas State, and New Mexico.
