The latest Texas Tech commitment to the 2025 class is 2025 Missouri City (TX) Ridge Point defensive back Gil Jackson, a prospect who earned a three-star 5.5 rating from Rivals ahead of his commitment to the Red Raiders.

What are the Red Raiders getting with the third defensive back commitment to the 2025 class as Jackson joins Michael Henderson III and Ramonz Adams, you may be asking.

Let's jump into the film to see what Jackson has done through his junior season of high school ball.

Strong Man Coverage

Jackson's best trait is the fluidity and reaction ability to match the receivers that he was aligned in either a soft press or true press assignments, being able to effectively mirror all of the receivers he is assigned.

Jackson's mirroring ability of the receivers is certainly the biggest reason that he should be able to stick at the corner position at the next level, and a lot of it is created by traits that aren't teachable. Very easy to see why the Red Raiders are taking a shot here on Jackson.

Physical Tackler & Elite Motor

A massive part of Jackson's game is his physicality and willingness to tackle, something that isn't exactly common in cornerbacks.

Jackson's willingness to not give up on the play, especially seen in the multiple plays where he runs the length of the field to make a tackle, is an extremely promising trait for a prospect to have while also flashing some strong foot speed to chase those ball carriers down.

The film also shows that Jackson is able to strongly wrap up and make the tackles, a trait that will fit the mold of the Red Raiders continued hope to get more physical at the position.

Ball Skills

When you watch Jackson's tape, it's evident he has a knack for the ball, both in man assignments and when helping out in a zone assignment.

Jackson relies on his athletic ability to get to the ball while putting it all together with strong timing and physicality at the catch point, something that will be an excellent asset if he is able to stick at corner in the long run.

The pass deflections that were shown here came in a variety of ways, which makes a player like this extremely exciting as he heads into his senior season of high school alongside the development he will get when he arrives in Lubbock.

Overall, a very rangy and athletic corner whose best traits come from the mirroring ability in man coverage while also being extremely physical as a tackler and when breaking up passes. A very enticing addition to the Red Raiders 2025 class.
