Fighting Irish Impact Players

The No. 3 seed Texas Tech Red Raiders are set to take on the No. 11 seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Notre Dame features a guard heavy lineup, and they have used a seven-man rotation for a large portion of this season. Here’s a breakdown of who we’ll see on the court for the Irish on Sunday.

NOTRE DAME STARTING LINEUP:

PRENTISS HUBB | 6-FOOT-3 | JUNIOR | GUARD

Hubb is sixth on the team in scoring with nine points per game. He’s 21st in the nation with a 2.63 assist-to-turnover ratio and leads the Irish in assists with four dimes per game. Hubb went 3-of-12 with 9 points, five rebounds and seven assists in the play-in game against the Scarlet Knights, and he was 1-of-8 with five points and three assists against Alabama. He scored 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting in the ACC Tournament loss to Virginia Tech.

DANE GOODWIN | 6-FOOT-6 | JUNIOR | GUARD

Goodwin is one of the most efficient offensive guards in college basketball. He’s shooting 50.1 percent from the field and 45.3 percent from behind the arc this season. Goodwin leads Notre Dame with 67 three-pointers made, and he’s their second leading scorer with 13.6 points per game. He’s a good rebounder for a guard and averages 4.6 boards per game. Goodwin scored 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting against Rutgers but was held to only three points against the Crimson Tide.

CORMAC RYAN | 6-FOOT-5 | JUNIOR |GUARD

Ryan is fifth on the team in scoring with 9.2 points per game, but he’s been their hottest shooter as of late and is averaging 20 points in the Fighting Irish’s last four games. He’s an efficient offensive player and is shooting 45.7 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range this season. Ryan scored 29 points on 10-of-13 shooting and was 7-9 from behind the arc against Alabama on Friday. He was 7-of-12 with 16 points and three steals against the Scarlet Knights.

BLAKE WESLEY | 6-FOOT-5 | FRESHMAN |GUARD

Wesley has been one of the top true freshmen players in college basketball this season and leads Notre Dame in scoring with 14.5 points per game. He’s second on the team in assists with 2.4 per game, and he’s a solid contributor on the glass, averaging 3.6 rebounds per game. He also leads the team with 1.3 steals per game on the defensive end. Wesley was 8-of-14 with 18 points and three steals in the win over the Crimson Tide but struggled against Rutgers with only eight points on 4-of-17 shooting.

PAUL ATKINSON JR. | 6-FOOT-9 | SENIOR | FORWARD

Atkinson is a grad-transfer who averaged 17.6 points per game for Yale a season ago. He’s the third leading scorer for the Irish at 12.8 points per game and is shooting 59.1 percent from the field. Atkinson leads the team in rebounds with 7.0 per game. He’s been huge for Notre Dame in the NCAA Tournament. Atkinson was 13-of-15 and scored 26 points with six rebounds and two blocks against the Scarlet Knights, and he was 6-of-11 with 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals against Alabama.

IRISH BENCH:

NATE LASZEWSKI | 6-FOOT-10 | JUNIOR | FORWARD

Laszewski is the sixth man and provides the Irish with some scoring pop off the bench. He’s fourth on the team at 9.5 points per game and second with a 52.4 field goal percentage. Laszewski has one of the best three-point percentages in college basketball, shooting 46.7 percent from deep. He is second on the team in rebounds with 6.6 per game. Laszewski was 6-of-8 with 18 points and six rebounds against Rutgers, and he was 3-of-4 with 10 points against the Crimson Tide.

TREY WERTZ | 6-FOOT-5 | JUNIOR | GUARD

Wertz averages 19 minutes per game off the bench for Notre Dame and is an efficient facilitator of the basketball. He has a 2.13 assist-to-turnover ratio off the bench and serves as the primary ball handler for the Irish when Hubb is off the floor. Wertz has taken only two shots and hasn’t scored in Notre Dame’s last three games despite averaging a combined 13.5 minutes in those contests.
