Dyer commits to Texas Tech

Mesquite (Texas) Horn offensive tackle Conner Dyer committed to Texas Tech on Tuesday, capping off a meticulous and well-researched recruitment that saw the Rivals250 prospect visit programs in six states.

Dyer visited Ole Miss, Tennessee and Ohio State in June, while Baylor, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and TCU received visits earlier in the spring. Throughout it all, though, Dyer continued to visit the Red Raiders. He visited the South Plains in July, stopped by one of the program's Dallas-Fort Worth satellite camps in June, tok in one of the team's spring practices and attended a Junior Day event in February.

"Really, I just hung out all day," Dyer said after his most recent trip to Lubbock. "I spent a large amount of the day with Webb. We never talked too much about specifics but it was obvious that he's enjoying himself (at Tech) and cares for his team."

Texas Tech's coaching staff, with safeties coach Trey Haverty leading the way, was a major factor in Dyer's recruitment.

"I talk to college coaches on the phone a lot, but I probably hear from Texas Tech the most," Dyer said in February. "They like to keep in touch, I speak with coach (Trey) Haverty at least once a week.

"I love the coaching staff at Texas Tech, that's really the biggest draw. I talk to Coach Haverty about anything really, how our day or week is going, he talks about his newborn son and what type of stuff we like to do in our downtime."

Dyer, ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 149 overall prospect in the nation, is the Red Raiders' third Rivals250 commit for the 2015 class. He chose the Red Raiders over offers from Baylor, LSU, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M and others.
