DFW-area WR gaining interest from Texas Tech

In exactly one month, college coaches will be allowed to hit the road again and continue evaluating prospects for the 2017 recruiting class. One target the Tech coaches will check in with is Arlington (Texas) Oakridge wide receiver Bronson Boyd.

"Coach (Emmett) Jones and I have been talking since the beginning of my junior season," Boyd said. "He is from Dallas and I know some of the receivers he has worked with before, so I trust Coach Jones. We also talked about some of the receivers that have come out of Texas Tech, how far they have gone and stuff like that.

"Honestly, Texas Tech is a big school for me. If they were to offer, then they will definitely move to one of my top schools."

Boyd is a fan of the Texas Tech offense and the production the Red Raiders have at the receiver position.

"All we do is pass the ball at Oakridge, it's a 70/30 split, so I'm used to playing in a spread offense," Boyd said. "I have watched Tech recently and their offense is crazy. They pass the ball a lot, but they also have an efficient running game and that is why I like them so much.

"The amount of players a school has sent to the next level is something that I look at as well. That is my number one goal, finding coaches and a program that can help me get to the next level. Texas Tech has a handful of receivers playing in the NFL and the receivers in their offense put up huge numbers."

The 6-foot-3, 183-pound prospect also has family ties to the Red Raiders, his mother graduated from Texas Tech.

"My Mom went to Tech," Boyd said. "So she is basically telling me everything about Tech and egging me to go there. I'm going to be visiting sometime very soon, but I'm still not sure if she is going to visit with me or not."

Boyd currently holds five offers and several programs are beginning to show interest in the all-state talent.

"Out of the schools that have offered, I would say that Wisconsin and Nevada are probably recruiting me the hardest right now," Boyd said. "Coaches from Oregon, UCLA, Mississippi State, North Texas, Washington State, Nebraska, and Texas have all been showing interest lately.

"A lot of coaches say they like my film and my size, and most of them are coming to watch me practice in person later this spring. I'm not in a hurry to make my decision and plan on waiting to talk things through with my family, possibly make my commitment after my senior season."

Boyd mentioned a visit to the South Plains is in the works and he plans to visit a few other programs this off-season.

"I have been to Oklahoma State and that is my only visit so far," Boyd said. "I'm going to Nebraska, Houston, and Texas sometime this summer. I'm trying to visit Texas Tech really soon. That is probably going to be my next visit, I just need to get the dates setup because Coach Jones wants me to watch one of their spring practices."

Rated a 5.5 three-star prospect, Boyd finished with 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns receiving - earning Southwest Preparatory Conference All-State Football honors this past season.

Boyd will compete at the Rivals Camp in Dallas this weekend.
