Deaton is on the radar

Texas Tech has recently begun to show interest in Frisco (Texas) offensive
center Dawson Deaton. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound lineman visited the South
Plains this summer with his teammate, friend and Red Raider commit Jack Anderson.
Lee Hays evaluated Deaton in person earlier this month before the Red Raiders
played Baylor in Arlington and came away impressed with what he saw.
WHAT'S NEXT?:
Deaton has no offers at the moment, but Colorado State, Kansas and Tulsa could
be close to extending offers. Texas Tech will most likely hold off on making a
decision about offering until they view his progression from this season. Deaton
has set up visits to Houston and Oklahoma for the next few months. He also plans
to join Anderson in Lubbock for Texas Tech's game against Oklahoma State.
IN HIS WORDS:
"They're really one of the schools I'd really be interested in going to. Both of
my parents went there and most of my family on my dad's side went there as well.
It was awesome when I visited there. I just really like it at Tech." ... "Coach
(Lee) Hays is just a really cool guy. I enjoyed talking to him when I visited
and Jack always tells me about how good of a guy he is."
OUR REACTION:
Lee Hays is already off to a great start with his 2017 offensive line class, and
he has several top tier prospects that are the priority as of right now.
However, Deaton and many others could certainly pick up more attention after
their junior year during the spring and summer. -- Will McKay
