DE Tyler Lacy recaps unofficial visit, new offer from TTU

The Texas Tech coaches hosted an unofficial visitor on campus today, Sachse defensive end Tyler Lacy, and the standout prospect left town with an offer from the Red Raiders.

"The visit went really well," Lacy said. "I met everyone and it seemed like the coaches were all on the same page. I met the entire defensive staff - Coach (Terrance) Jamison, Coach (Karl) Scott, Coach (Zac) Spavital and Coach (David) Gibbs. They like me as a rush end, see me fitting in with my height and weight, my quickness and the coaches really like what they have seen from my highlights.

"The coaches showed me around the facilities and a couple of the coaches took me on a tour of the stadium and the campus. We also talked about what they are doing with the updates to the stadium, the new locker rooms and the new indoor practice facility."

Lacy met Coach Jamison for the first time today and shared his thoughts on the new Texas Tech defensive line coach.

"I liked him a lot, even though I just met him today," Lacy said. "I felt like I could relate to him and he was very approachable. I met with the coaches as a group, then I spent some one on one time with Coach Jamison. We watched some tape of them practicing and looked at some of the things they do during practice and some of the things that Coach Jamison looks for on film.

"We had to leave before the actual practice got started, but I was able to watch the team go through warm ups and start a few drills."

The highlight of the day for Lacy was meeting with head coach Kliff Kingsbury and receiving an offer from the Red Raiders.

"I would say that some of my favorite parts were meeting with the coaches and touring campus, but meeting with Coach Kingsbury was exciting because I received an offer. He offered me and I was very excited. We talked about what he expects from his players on and off the field, and he really liked how I make good grades in school and take care of business on the field as well.

"I still really cannot believe it now. I really like Texas Tech a lot, just trying to take my time and plan on talking with my parents about everything. I will see the coaches again soon though, I'm attending the scrimmage at The Star in a couple of weeks."

The 6-foot-4, 241-pound prospect is planning to graduate early this December and spent part of his visit learning more about the process from some of the current Texas Tech players.

"I met some of the players, just a group of guys, nobody in particular," Lacy said. "I wanted to talk with the guys who graduated early and went to Tech in the spring semester. That is something that I'm trying to do and I just need to get everything setup with my counselor at Sachse.

"My parents and I met with the academic advisors and learned more about how they support the players and other student athletes. My Mom and Dad liked it a lot, they really liked how the coaching staff and the support staff push you to graduate and make it a priority to help as much as possible."

Currently rated a 5.5. three-star prospect, Lacy finished with 34 tackles, six (6) tackles for loss, three and a half (3.5) sacks - earning District 10-6A All-District Second Team honors this past season.
