Cypress Ranch defensive lineman receiving interest from Tech

After building the defensive line depth by taking seven DL prospects in the 2016 class, the Texas Tech coaches are looking to do more of the same in the 2017 class by taking another three to four defensive line prospects. One target on Coach Kevin Patrick’s recruiting board is Cypress Ranch (TX) defensive tackle Harrison Loveless. Loveless has been in contact with Coach Patrick recently and speaks regularly with 2016 signee and teammate Brayden Stringer about the Red Raiders. Patrick and Loveless are currently in talks to maybe set-up a visit to Lubbock in the future, something Loveless would be very interested in.

Loveless finished the 2015 season by earning First Team All-District honors after posting 25 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 3 fumble recoveries.

WHAT'S NEXT?

As mentioned, Loveless is currently in contact with Coach Patrick, and while the contact is pretty minimal right now, Coach Patrick has sent the defensive tackle many possible spring dates that Loveless could take a visit on. Along with Texas Tech, Loveless also hears from Houston and SMU—two schools he was recently offered by--and Oklahoma State.

The six-foot-three prospect has spent the offseason gaining weight and is already up to 270 pounds but is now looking to develop his speed and strength. Loveless believes playing inside as a three-tech is what suits him best but has some schools talking to him about defensive end as well. Loveless plays all along the defensive line for Cypress Ranch.

IN HIS WORDS

“One of my teammates who is a year older than me signed with Texas Tech, so I have gotten to learn a bit about them through him. The things that I hear about Tech are that it is a very good place which makes me excited to maybe set up a visit and get to Lubbock.”

“Brayden (Stringer) and I are pretty close, we were actually talking yesterday about Texas Tech about maybe me coming up there some time and visiting. We talk a lot about recruiting. He tries to sell me a little bit and tells me how I could come to Lubbock and he could show me around which would be pretty cool.”

OUR REACTION

Like Lee Hays has done with the offensive line, David Gibbs and Kevin Patrick are now throwing numbers to build depth for the future on the defensive line. That means they're in contact with a wide swathe of prospects, and Loveless is clearly one that has piqued their interest. Setting up a visit is the next step here. -Will McKay
