Dallas (Texas) Carter 2018 defensive end Jarell Cherry was one of the select few prospects to pick up an offer from the Red Raiders during their summer satellite camp circuit, doing so after his eye-popping performance at the program's Euless Trinity camp in June.

With the Texas Tech staff back in town over the weekend for their final satellite camp of the summer at Duncanville, Cherry decided to drop by to hang out with the coaches, specifically defensive line coach Kevin Patrick.

"I actually came out here to connect with coach KP one more time," Cherry said. "I know he's out here, and I wanted to get with him before they had to head back. I know the season's coming up and they're going to get busy, and I just wanted to see him one last time."

In fact, Cherry has been developing a bond with Patrick ever since his camp performance with Texas Tech earlier this summer. The Dallas Carter prospect has enjoyed getting to know the Red Raider assistant and has come to respect his opinion.

"Ever since I camped with Tech, I feel like we've really started to connect and bond on a working relationship basis," Cherry said. "So far from what I've seen, he's been a great coach, and he's a guy that with anything I tell him or talk with him about, he's going to be able to talk with me about it, especially when it comes to college and football. From getting to know him, I can tell that he's a very hands-on type of person."

But Patrick isn't the only person in Red and Black that Cherry knows well. He's actually very close friends with true freshmen defensive linemen Joe Wallace and Clarence Henderson, who he got to know through their work at True Buzz Athletics in Dallas.

"Those two guys are my brothers. They've been with me since day one, since me coming into my freshman year," Cherry said. "Those guys are really like two of my mentors."

And while things are going well between Texas Tech and Cherry, he's also been busy on the camp circuit, specifically with Alabama and Texas, as the Longhorns offered on Monday afternoon.

Still, the Red Raiders appear to be in the mix for now in the early stages of Cherry's recruitment.

"Overall, I feel like Tech is a very strong school, both academic-wise and athletic-wise," Cherry said. "They're strongly in the mix, and I am considering them. I still am interested in a whole lot of different schools, and Texas Tech is certainly one of them."

Cherry currently holds offers from Texas Tech, Texas and SMU.
