Cali WR commits to Texas Tech

La Mirada (Calif.) three-star wide receiver Tony Brown committed to Texas Tech on Thursday over offers from Colorado, UCLA, Nebraska and others.
"It was a really tough decision," Brown said in an interview conducted earlier this week. "I chose the school that would be best for me for the next four years. I thought it was the best decision I have ever made."

While the 6-foot, 187-pound prospect was attracted to several aspects of the Red Raider football program, his decision to commit came down to the relationships he built with the Texas Tech special teams coach Darrin Chiaverini and the rest of the team's staff.
"They have a really good relationship with me and I felt really comfortable with coach Chev, he is very excited for me," Brown said. "He is doing the best he can to get that relationship with me, and he is doing a great job of doing that. My family feels comfortable with him.
"The relationship I have with him is definitely at the top. With other coaches, I do feel comfortable with them, but not as much as Chiaverini. I really trust him, some of these other coaches, not to bad talk them, but I don't trust as much as I trust coach Chev. I don't feel like the relationship I have with other coaches compares to coach Chiaverini."
Brown will bring a level of versatility to Texas Tech's offense and could play any of the team's four receiver positions.
"I talked with coach Kingsbury about how I can contribute to the offense, where I'm going to fit in and the second thing was academics," Brown said. "He says he sees me in the outside receiver spot and maybe on special teams as the punt returner. I was very excited hearing those things."
Brown also held offers from Iowa State, Purdue, SMU, Utah, Utah State and Washington State. Rivals.com ranks him as the No. 70 prospect in California and the No. 63 wide receiver in the country.
