Bruffy preparing for the next level

Texas Tech has been looking to add more size to their offensive line for the future, and they certainly did that when Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point offensive tackle Travis Bruffy committed in late July. Since then, the O-lineman has devoted his time to mastering his craft and leading his team this fall.

Bruffy has even gone as far as to study the Red Raider O-line closely, watching them perform weekly and dissecting some of the unit's tendencies. The OT hopes that being a student early will help him gain an early advantage once he's on campus and rolling. Bruffy has also built a relationship with freshman Red Raider wide receiver Jonathan Giles, and the two have had conversations about the expectations put on freshmen by the Tech coaching staff.
WHAT'S NEXT?:
Bruffy has already been out to West Texas this fall, but he also has plans to be in Lubbock for the Red Raiders' final home game against Kansas State in several weeks. However, that could change, as things depend on how far Ridge Point can go in the playoffs this postseason. The Panthers have two more games to go in the regular season, and Bruffy thinks things are looking promising.
As for his own personal goals, the six-foot-seven, 271 pound lineman's main objective for the next few months is building more strength. He would also like to gain a few extra pounds before signing with Texas Tech.
IN HIS WORDS:
"I really wanted to work on my run blocking, and I've just been progressing every week. You can just see I've been working. I've been working on keeping my base wide and hands inside and staying low with my hips because I have the tendency to bend the hips to get leverage. I definitely see an improvement week to week watching film," said Bruffy. "I feel like - with the offense at a fast pace - they have to keep the line calls as simple as possible. It's a whole bunch of quick pass sets because Mahomes can get the ball out easily in three seconds. Of course they're far more advanced in their techniques than I am. "
OUR REACTION:
Bruffy seems to really be trying to prepare himself for the next level already, which has to be encouraging for Lee Hays. The lineman seems to be all in with the Red Raiders, and another visit to Lubbock would just be icing on the cake. - Will McKay
