Bruffy enjoyed in-home with Tech staff

The open period before National Signing Day is now in full swing, meaning coaching staffs around the country are out on the road to check in on both prospects and commits. That includes the Texas Tech coaching staff, several of whom spent their afternoon in Houston visiting commits on in-homes. Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point offensive tackle Travis Bruffy hosted head coach Kliff Kingsbury, offensive line coach Lee Hays, and offensive coordinator and inside receivers coach Eric Morris yesterday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed his time with his soon-to-be coaching staff.

The coaches spent time discussing plans for the future with the Houston native, including for his offiicial visit this weekend, enrolling in June, and path for the fall. Coach Hays sees Bruffy as an offensive tackle all the way right now, and he also believes the OT will redshirt this season. The staff would like to see him add strength and put on weight under the guidance of new S&C coach Rusty Whitt, but they also want Bruffy to be prepared to have his redshirt pulled just in case the cards fall that way.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Bruffy will head to Lubbock this weekend for his official visit, and he'll have essentially the entire 2016 class in tow. That includes his buddies from the Houston area, DFW, West Texas, and Louisiana, so the OT is excited for an opportunity to really spend quality time with this future teammates.

Bruffy already knows Houston Miller, Jett Duffey, Gio Pancotti, DaMarcus FIelds, and a few other of his fellow commits well, but this will be the time to build bonds with the rest of the class.

IN HIS WORDS

"It went really well. We just kind of talked about the logistics of playing football there, when I need to report to Tech in the summer, how my official visit is going to go down, certain class loads, and then what they kind of expect out of of me and how I'll fit into the offense in June."

"It was awesome, cause the last time I saw Coach Kingsbury and Coach Morris was when I went up there for the TCU game," he said. "It was good seeing them all again, making sure Coach Kingsbury is still wearing the suits. It was nice, they had some great things to say, and it was everything I wanted it to be."

"Currently they're wanting to keep me out at a tackle spot, and the plan is also to redshirt me. However, if worse comes to worst, they want me ready to play. They expect me to come in their, bust my tail like everyone else should, and if I don't, then I know that's my fault."

"I'm really excited, cause I think like 20 of us are going to be up there, most of us commits all at the same time. We'll meet Jett (Duffey) and (John) Picone up there, because those guys are already enrolled," he said. "I'm really looking forward to hanging out with all the other commits."

OUR REACTION

Bruffy is another lineman that fits the bill for what Lee Hays wants to use as a base skillset for his offensive line: He's long, a good run blocker, is nasty, and shows a great motor. Him redshirting isn't a surprise, especially with the age and depth now in front of him on the unit. He's ready to sign, and it's now just a matter of time.
