Brooks ready to join Tech

Texas Tech's 2016 linebacker class received a boost over the summer when Houston (Texas) Stratford linebacker Jordyn Brooks committed to the Red Raiders on June 18. Brooks was coming off of a First Team All-District Junior campaign and had 10 scholarship offers to his name when he decided to shut things down and join the Red Raiders. The three-star linebacker has been solid ever since. In fact, the LB was recently in Lubbock for Texas Tech's last-second loss to TCU and enjoyed every minute of it.

Brooks even stayed in town an extra day, not leaving the South Plains till early Monday morning. He enjoyed talking with all the coaches and hanging out with fellow commits such as Travis Bruffy and Jett Duffey.
WHAT'S NEXT?:
Brooks is squarely focused on his senior season at the moment, and his sights are set on homecoming opponent Tombal,l who Stratford will face on Friday. He's been a key cog in the middle of the Spartan defense, as he has helped limit opposing teams to 3.9 yards per carry. With Texas Tech, the 6-foot-1, 230-pound linebacker is looking to continue to build a relationship with linebackers coach Zac Spavital and defensive backs coach Kevin Curtis. Brooks is no longer in contact with any other schools and has no other visits set-up this year. He will take an official visit to Tech sometime after his high school season.
IN HIS WORDS:
"I'm just read to suit up really and am getting ready to play in that Red and Black. Just the chance to play at a great university and suit up with my brothers is something that I'm definitely looking forward to," he said. "From what I've seen this year, I think I can bring energy to that defense. The offense scores so fast that the defense has to constantly go back out there. They get tired, and I think I can bring a different type of energy and speed to the game. Personally for my size, I am 6-foot-1, but I am as fast as a safety. I think the speed that I bring could really help change things."
OUR REACTION:
Brooks made a last minute decision to head out to Lubbock for Tech's game against the Horned Frogs last weekend, and it sounds like he feels he made the right choice there. He's all in with the Red Raiders it sounds like, which is good to hear, because several schools such as Texas A&M have been trying to work their way into the picture as of late. - Will McKay
