Breaking: Tech adds 9th commitment

Over the last several months it's become clear that Mike Leach's Air Raid is not the only show going on at Texas Tech. Defensive Coordinator Ruffin McNeill and his blackshirts caused a ruckus all spring long with their aggressive play.

That insistent nature has carried over to the recruiting side of things, where six of the Red Raiders' eight commits as of this weekend were defensive commits. This was a big development for a school generally known for its offense.

Then as of Sunday night, that development just got a little bigger as the Red Raiders picked up another defensive commitment, this time from Bishop Lynch outside linebacker Dion Chidozie.

Chidozie, who stands at a stout 6-foot-1, 190-pounds and runs a legit 4.5 forty, became commitment number nine for the Red Raiders' 2009 class.

"Well, everything's going great so far," he explained. "Obviously Texas Tech is my favorite and that's why I committed to them tonight."

Chidozie, who just received an offer from Tech this past week, says it was an easy decision after talking it over with his coach and parents.

"I told the coaches today, I talked to Coach McNeill," said the standout athlete. "I had talked it over with my parents and my coach and they basically said I could do it, so I did, and now I'm a Red Raider."

The quick linebacker, who tallied 64 solo tackles, 10 sacks, and 29 quarterback hurries last year as a rush linebacker, also held offers from Air Force, Army, and Louisiana Tech. Schools such as Kansas State, Iowa State, Northwestern, Duke, and others came by his school last week to watch him practice.

For now, Chidozie says he's thrilled to be on board and is happy to be a Red Raider.

"The coaches were just very welcoming, they told me that I was now a part of the Red Raider family," he said. "It's close to home, my parents liked it, and it's a huge Texas football school, so I'm very happy. It's one of the big three here in Texas, you know, them, Texas, and Texas A&M are the big schools here, so just being considered by Tech is an honor to me."

The talented linebacker has yet to visit Lubbock, but says that he will remedy that later this month when he and his family plan on visiting Texas Tech.
