Adams in town to watch the Texas Bowl

Riverbend (Virginia) offensive tackle Zach Adams is one of the least talked about 2016 commitments for the Red Raiders. Regardless, one look at Adams' tape and his long list of offers from Power Five programs, it's not difficult to see what Texas Tech offensive line coach Lee Hays saw in him when offering this past July. During the recent open contact period, Coach Hays traveled East to check on Adams and watch one of his basketball games.

WHAT'S NEXT?:
Adams, originally from the state of Texas, is back in the Houston area for the holidays and will stay in town to watch the Red Raiders face LSU in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 29th. From there, he plans to take his official visit to the South Plains on Jan. 29th with the other offensive lineman commits. The standout prospect also plays on the varsity basketball team for Riverbend and continue the season into the new year.
IN HIS WORDS:
"Coach Hays came up here a few weeks ago to see me," Adams said. "I had a basketball game and he stayed to watch the game. We had a chance to visit before and after the game. It was great having him up here because we had spent some time in person during my unofficial visit and we talk on the phone all of the time, but having him there at my school was a great experience.
"Coach and I see eye to eye. We have the same standards and the same outlook on a lot of things. He loves how basketball is helping me with my footwork and wants me to continue working out, building strength, and losing bad weight in the off-season. The coaches see me playing left tackle and that is what I mostly played in high school, but I'm capable of playing both positions and could move out the right tackle position if needed."
Another byproduct of the open contact period in December is other coaches reaching out with new or renewed interest, but Adams had a quiet month on the recruiting trail by design.
"No sir, I didn't really hear from any other schools," Adams said. "Once I committed to Texas Tech, there were a few schools that continued to recruit me, but I made it clear that my decision was final and that I'm 100-percent committed to Texas Tech. To be honest, I really didn't expect to hear anything when coaches started coming around."
Adams is spending the holidays in Houston with family and has plans to attend the Texas Bowl with a group of his fellow 2016 Texas Tech commitments.
"I'm going to try and meet up with Travis Bruffy while I'm down here," Adams said. "I will be in town for about a week and we are going to the Texas Bowl to watch Tech play LSU. There is a group of commitments all going to the game together. We cannot really meet up with the coaches or spend time with the team, but we all have a group text message and I believe there should be quite of a few of us at the game."
OUR REACTION:
At 6-foot-7, 305-pounds, Adams has an excellent frame for a tackle prospect and will benefit greatly from a redshirt year learning from Coach Hays. He is capable of adding another 20-25 pounds of 'good' weight and should continue developing strength at the college level. Adams' athleticism, length, and punch off the line not only make him an impressive prospect, but also a great fit for a passing offense that needs to protect the quarterback.
Rated a 5.6 three-star, Adams is the No. 63 offensive tackle prospect in the nation and the No. 14 prospect on the Rivals.com Virginia Postseason Top 45 for the 2016 class. -Matt Clare
