Texas Tech announced Tuesday afternoon that senior walk-on Matthew Temple would be placed on scholarship for his senior season.

Temple earned a spot on the Red Raider basketball team after impressing at a try out last summer. He was ineligible to play during the fall semester, but ended up playing in 25 games as a junior.

The Wichita Falls, Texas product was forced to take on a bigger-than-expected role once Big 12 play started due to an injury to Norense Odiase. Temple started 15 games as a result, averaging 4.4 points and 2 rebounds per outing during that stretch.

Temple being placed on scholarship caps off a busy summer of roster management for first-year coach Chris Beard and the Texas Tech basketball program. Following the graduation of Toddrick Gotcher and Devaugntah Williams and a handful of transfers, the Red Raiders have added JUCO All-Americans Niem Stevenson and Shadell Millinghaus, Arkansas State graduate transfer Anthony Livingston, Quinnipiac graduate transfer Giovanni McLean and Florida transfer Brandone Francis. Counting Temple, Beard's program now has 13 scholarship players, the maximum allowed under NCAA rules, for the 2016-17 season.
