We caught up with Compass Prep (AZ) shooting guard Lamar Washington as part of our signee Q&A series for the class of 2022. We asked him a few questions as he prepares to make the transition from an Compass Prep Dragon to a Texas Tech Red Raider.

What was the most memorable moment of your HS career?

"Either scoring 20 in the state semi-final to lead my team to the championship my freshman year or scoring 50 points."

What was your favorite part of the recruiting process?

"My favorite part of the recruiting process was most definitely the visits.

How have the coaches said they’ll utilize you this season?

"They want me to facilitate and make plays for my teammates"

Are you recruiting anyone else right now to Tech, if so who?

"No not as of right now."

What team are you most excited to play?

"Texas most definitely."

When do you get to Lubbock?

"May 29th"

What part of your game have you been working on the most?

"I have been working on every aspect of my game, to be honest. I just want to continue to get better every single day."

How have the talks with the coaches been recently and who have you been talking to?

The talks have been really good. I've been talking to everyone on the staff from coach Mark Adams to coach Darby Rich, coach Al Pinkins, coach Corey Williams, and coach Sean Sutton. So, it’s been dope."

How are the talks with Pop Isaacs and Robert Jennings?

There really good. We're already building chemistry and a brotherhood early."

Favorite movie?

"War for the Planet of the Apes."

What was the biggest reason you picked Texas Tech?

"The playing style for sure. They turn defense into offense and they play hard on defense. The defense they play is the same exact one we play at AZ Compass so it was perfect."

What number do you want to wear at Tech and why?

"It doesn’t matter what number I get because whatever I do get, I’m going to make people fall in love with it."

What are your goals for your freshman season, and overall in your Tech career?

"To produce winning minutes for my team right away and hopefully I can make the all-freshman team. My goal before I leave Texas Tech is to bring red raider nation a National Championship."

You get 1 song to play when you’re running out of the tunnel. What song do you pick?

"Faneto by Chief Keef."

You can have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, and ask them any questions you might have. Who would you pick?

"Definitely my late grandpa. He passed away three months before I was born and I have so much to ask him."

What is the last thing you want to tell Tech fans before you head out to Lubbock?

"I can’t wait to get down there and get to work. Guns up red raider nation."
