Texas Tech already has seven verbal commitments in the 2024 class, and while the overall class size will be smaller than this past season, that hasn't stopped the coaches from honing in on some top targets they'd love to add to the fold.

One prospect the coaches have stayed in heavy contact with is Pflugerville Weiss defensive back Peyton Morgan.

Morgan is a long-time target for these coaches, as he initially announced his offer from the Red Raiders back on November 27th, 2021. Texas Tech was his first offer, and now Morgan is set to get back on campus for the programs upcoming Junior Day on March 4th.

RedRaiderSports caught up with the 6-foot-1, 170 pound defender for the latest in his recruitment.

What you need to know...

... Morgan holds 10 offers to date. Along with Texas Tech, schools that have offered are Arizona State, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Tulane, California, Baylor, Houston and SMU.

... Per his MaxPreps page, Morgan put up 85 tackles, 5 interceptions and 9 passes defended as a junior. Following the year he was named District 12-6A Second Team defensive back.

... Like so many other Texas Tech targets Morgan is a standout on the track, too. Per his athletic.net profile, Morgan competed in the 110 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles, 4x200 meter relay, Long Jump and Triple Jump as a sophomore.

Connection with the Texas Tech coaches: "The main coaches that I really talk to are coach Blanchard and coach Nance. Coach Blanchard, he was the one that first texted me ever and he's a really good guy. Also the head coach, coach McGuire, he's great seriously. He's also one that talks to me.

We pretty much talk almost every day now. It's very serious, these guys will definitely take care of you if you go to that school. They're very good people."

What Tech's coaches say they like about him: "They love how my ball skills are just amazing, how I read the quarterback. How I'm physical and get a lot of interceptions too. They just love it, they love my energy."
