RELATED: Mahomes receives preseason accolades for good works
Texas Tech junior quarterback Pat Mahomes was named to the Davey O'Brien Award watch list on Thursday, identifying him as a contender for the award presented annually to the nation's top college quarterback.
Mahomes was named a Davey O'Brien Award semifinalist in 2015 after becoming just the third player in Big 12 history to account for more than 5,000 yards of total offense in a single season.
Semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien Award will be announced on Nov. 10, and the three finalists will be revealed on Nov. 22. The winner will be announced on Dec. 8 as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
Mahomes is one of four Big 12 signal callers on the Davey O'Brien Award watch list, joining Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma State's Mason Rudolph and Baylor's Seth Russell.
