2026 WR Jarell Gary Jr picks up first offer from TTU

The Texas Tech Red Raiders were once again the first program to offer a recruit. This time, it was 2026 Austin (McNeil) High School wide receiver Jarell Gary Jr. who picked up the offer from the Red Raiders on January 29, 2024.

RedRaiderSports caught up with him to get his thoughts on the offer and his recruitment.

... TTU was the first program to offer him on January 29, 2024.

… He has another offer from North Texas and has also taken a game day visit to Texas.

... Last season, he had 59 receptions for 708 yards and 7 touchdowns and added 77 carries for 294 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also passed for 2 touchdowns, per his MaxPreps page.

... He was also named the 25-6A District Newcomer of the Year.

Last season: "I felt like the season went very well for us sophomores. We did really well making big plays when it came down to it and helping our team go to the playoffs for the first time in 20 years."

The recruiting process: "The recruiting process has been going pretty well. I've been trying to reach out to as many coaches as I can so I can get out there more."

Receiving first offer from Texas Tech: "It was very exciting. My head coach (Scott Hermes) called me into his office, and we had a great conversation. He announced the news, and I had the biggest smile on my face. It was just mind-blowing, and I would never have thought I would be getting offers my sophomore year."

Connection with Texas Tech coaches like: "I've talked to Coach Kittley a little bit. He said they wanted me out for those camps and wanted me to look around the facility."

Other camps and visits: "I've taken three unofficial visits. I went to UTSA, Texas, and Baylor. They were all really exciting."

Other schools hearing from the most: "I've been talking to Tarleton State for the past week, and they want me to come out there. But as coaches follow me, I just send them my film and hope they get back to it."

Thoughts on the Texas Tech football program: "I know Texas Tech has had some outstanding players come from the school. They love to play hard and always bring in great talent."

The off-season: "Our off-season is done. We are now in spring ball, working to get better and build our chemistry so we can make it back to the playoffs."
