Frisco corner Chase Lowery holds 20 offers from programs across the country

The Texas Tech Athletics department announced the hire of Derek Jones as the program's associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach on February 12th and Frisco corner Chase Lowery received an offer from the Red Raiders the next week.

What you need to know...

...Lowery announced his offer from Texas Tech on February 21st, 2020

...the 5-foot-11, 175-pound prospect played his sophomore season at Prestonwood, then moved to Frisco

...the standout defender holds 20 offers from programs around the country, including offers from Texas Tech, Kansas State, Arizona, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Memphis, Oregon State, Purdue, Washington State and several others

Relationship with the TTU coaches: "I mostly talk with Coach Jones, Coach (DeAndre) Smith and Coach (Matt) Wells. I actually knew Coach Jones from his time at Duke, he had come by our school and I met him my freshman year. He is funny, but he will get onto you if you are his player. Coach Jones is very straight up with things and with how he feels.

"I have been on the phone with Coach Wells a few times lately. He has been telling me how much I would fit in and we talked about the atmosphere up there in Lubbock. Coach Wells really wants me there, and overall he seems like a good guy to play for."

Fit in the TTU Defense: "Coach Jones likes me because I can run with wide receivers in the Big 12 conference. He likes my ball skills and my versatility, because I could play all over the secondary at corner, safety or nickel. Right now, we have talked about playing safety."

TTU visit in March: "I thought it was great to watch practice, and there were only a few guys there so I was able to spend a lot of time with the coaches. Coach Jones and I reviewed my own film, then he showed me how I could fit into the Texas Tech defense. He mixed in some clips of the Tech defense, then some from his time at Duke to show me some technique or defensive alignments."

Thoughts on TTU?: "I think it would be a great opportunity. Some guys from my school on the offensive line - Jack Anderson and Dawson Deaton - play there. They told me it is a great culture there at Texas Tech, and some of my friends are committed there too. Jerand Bradley, Kobee Minor and Myles Price are all guys I'm friends with and have trained with before."

Overall recruitment: "I have just been on a lot of Zoom calls, usually with the whole coaching staff and FaceTime with other coaches. Schools will take me on tours, walk through the facilities and campus. I would say the programs showing the most interest, but haven't offered would be Tennessee, Louisiana, Auburn, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, UCLA and Arizona State."

Visits: "I was able to visit North Texas, Memphis, Oklahoma State, Arizona State and Texas Tech before everything was shut down last month. I went to a Texas Tech game last year, it was the Oklahoma State game, and then I visited again last month.

"Once we are allowed to take visits again, I want to take some unofficial visits and then take 3-4 official visits so I can feel out my options. As of right now, I wanted to commit after the second game of our season, but I'm probably going to wait until after the season."

Currently rated a 5.5 three-star prospect, Lowery is listed as the No. 130 overall prospect on the Rivals Texas Top 145 for the 2021 class.

He finished with 48 tackles, one (1) tackle for loss, eight (8) pass breakups, one (1) forced fumble, one (1) interception returned for a touchdown, four (4) interceptions on defense, along with 758 yards and seven (7) touchdowns receiving on offense, and two (2) punt returns for touchdowns and one (1) kick return for a touchdown on special teams - all earning him the District 7-5A-II MVP honors as a junior.
