Texas Tech identifies new DE target thanks to satellite camp tour

Kevin Patrick

The Texas Tech coaches recently completed their 2016 satellite camp tour last weekend at Duncanville High School. The various camps took the coaches to the Dallas-Fort Worth area twice, the Houston area and a new stop in Oklahoma this year.

Last month, the Red Raiders were at Euless Trinity high school hosting a satellite camp and Crowley defensive end Milton Williams was in attendance.

"Coach (Eric) Morris stopped by Crowley earlier this spring and told my coaches about the camp, their interest in me," Williams said. "At the camp, I met coach (Kevin) Patrick and we exchanged contact information after the camp. We have kept in touch since and have been talking a little bit. I would say we are in touch almost every day."

Williams currently holds scholarship offers from Stephen F. Austin and New Mexico with a handful of programs beginning to show interest, including Texas Tech.

"Coach Patrick says that I have a lot of raw athletic talent," Williams said. "He likes my speed, my quickness, and how I move for a prospect my size. I ran a 4.6 second 40-yard dash at the camp. He believes that I have a lot of potential at the rush end position. We talked about my current offers, my recruitment so far.

"Coach and I have mostly been staying in touch, getting to know one another. He told me they were getting my test scores and transcripts, so I think they are definitely interested."

Done with camps and visits for the summer, Williams is looking at a few official visits later this fall.

"I camped at the Texas Tech camp, the SFA camp, the Houston Baptist camp, and I was supposed to visit Louisiana Tech for a camp but I had a scheduling conflict," Williams said. "My family and I went to Atlanta for my little sister's basketball tournament and I couldn't make it. Right now, I'm getting ready for the season and keeping in touch with all of the coaches recruiting me.

"I talk with New Mexico and SFA, but the coaches showing the most interest are Texas Tech and Louisiana Tech. I also talk with coach (Terry) Price at Texas A&M, just not as often as I talk with the other coaches.

"I have invitations from New Mexico and SFA for official visits this fall. I'm setting those up soon and will keep in touch with other coaches for any other official visits."

Rated a 5.3 two-star prospect, the 6-foot-4, 230-pound prospect finished with 52 total tackles, 36 solo tackles, seven tackles for loss and two sacks - earning District 8-5A All-District First Team Defense this past season.
