Wolf Diamonds Storylines

1. Texas Tech baseball visits Texas A&M for the final meeting between the two schools in Big 12 play. After notching its first Big 12 series win this past weekend the Red Raider baseball team heads to College Station for the final time in the immediate future.
First, the big picture. Tech and Texas A&M have been conference mates since 1958 when Texas Technological College joined the Southwest Conference but the regional rivalry between the two schools existed even before that. This weekend marks the end of scheduled competition between Tech and Texas A&M due to Texas A&M's jump to the Southeastern Conference and the Red Raiders' vow to not play the Aggies in anything unless the two schools can agree to play in every sport.

For Tech baseball there is a lot on the line. The Red Raiders aren't favored to win the series against Texas A&M -- a consensus top 25 team -- but one win in College Station would give the Red Raiders three games in hand over last place Kansas State while the Wildcats sit out from Big 12 competition as the odd team out of the nine Big 12 schools that participate in baseball.
2. Quarterback watch.
Southlake (Texas) Carroll quarterback Kenny Hill committed to Texas A&M Saturday leaving Cody Thomas as the only uncommitted high school quarterback with an offer from Tech.
This week we will be closely watching Dallas Skyline quarterback Devante Kincade and Temple (Texas) quarterback Zach Allen. The Red Raider coaching staff likes both of these players a lot and with all the eggs currently in one basket it wouldn't be surprising if Tech's interaction with Kincade and Allen picks up in the next few weeks.
You read an Allen update today and you're going to get a Kincade update tomorrow and we're going to be checking in with these players very frequently in the near future.
Buckle up.
3. NCAA watch. The Tech men's and women's tennis teams as well as the men's and women's golf teams will learn their NCAA fates this week after strong regular season performances and decent Big 12 Championship tournament performances.
After winning the Big 12 regular season championship the Lady Raider tennis team lost in a Big 12 semifinal meeting against Texas but should still be a highly regarded at-large team. The same can pretty much be said for the men's tennis team which fell to Baylor in the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament. The men's team finished second in the Big 12 regular season.
The NCAA selections for tennis will occur Tuesday at 5 p.m. for the women and 5:30 p.m. for the men.
The men's golf team has already clinched an 11th-consecutive NCAA Tournament berth and will learn its regional destination and pairings May 7 after finishing the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship in third place.
The 29th-ranked Lady Raider golf team finished seventh place in the Big 12 Championships but will learn if they made the tournament or not today at 8 p.m.
